Air Conditioning Repair in Lakewood, NJ

Yes. Replacing an air conditioner or condensing unit with one of like capacity is "minor work" under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code, so the construction office is notified, a permit application is filed, and the installation is inspected. Repairing an existing AC system counts as ordinary maintenance and needs no permit. In Lakewood, permits and inspections go through the Lakewood Township Inspections (Construction) Department.

Often, yes. JCP&L offers HVAC equipment rebates through EnergySaveNJ for ENERGY STAR central air, heat pumps, and ductless mini-splits, and New Jersey Natural Gas customers can use SAVEGREEN equipment rebates and on-bill repayment. Programs, eligibility, and amounts change, and some require proof of the permit, so we confirm the current rules for your equipment before you commit to a replacement.

Half of the homes in Lakewood were built in 1994 or earlier (U.S. Census ACS 2020–2024). Homes with forced-air heat can usually take central air on the existing ducts once they are checked for size and leaks. Homes heated by boilers and radiators have no ducts, which is where ductless mini-splits or a high-velocity system make sense.
